The Druids Egg

I carry a Druids Egg with me wherever I go. It has helped me avoid getting pulled over, calms my mind, gives me somewhat of a spiritual foci, and also has helped me notice small details I normally would overlook. I've given this egg the name of Niall, from Niall of the Nine Hostages. Here's the story from the beginning.

I attended the "Druids Breakfast Club" here in Austin last month on Feb 16th 2008. It was fun as well as educational. After the breakfast, we took a trip to Natures Treasures who happens to have the best selection of geological stuff in town. With regard to purpose, I was looking for something in particular but didn't know what stone I was going to buy. I asked a Druid who was with us and she directed me to Labradorite. I found a Labradorite egg about as tall as my thumb. Though it had a good amount of yellow flashing, there wasn't much blue-green flashing which is unusual. I held it in my hand and could feel its buzz, to me it seemed to cycle at a low frequency. It was perfect!

Judy Hall has this to say about Labradorite in her book The Crystal Bible:

"Iridescent Labradorite is a highly mystical and protective stone, a bringer of light. It raises consciousness and connects with universal energies. Labradorite deflects unwanted energies from the aura and prevents energy leakage. It forms a barrier to negative energies shed during therapy. It can take you into another world or into other lives. A stone of esoteric knowledge, it facilitates initiation into the mysteries. Labradorite aligns the physical and etheric bodies and accesses spiritual purpose. It raises consciousness and grounds spiritual energies into the physical body. This stone stimulates intuition and psychic gifts, including the art of "right timing," bringing messages from the unconscious mind to the surface and facilitating their understanding. Psychologically, Labradorite banishes fears and insecurities and the psychic debris from previous disappointments, including those experienced in past lives. It strengthens faith in the self and trust in the universe. It removes other people's projections, including thought forms that have hooked into the aura. Labradorite calms an overactive mind and energizes the imagination, bringing up new ideas. Analysis and rationality are balanced with the inner sight. Labradorite brings contemplation and introspection. Synthesizing intellectual thought with intuitive wisdom, it is an excellent dispeller of illusions, going to the root of a matter and showing the real intention behind thoughts and actions. This stone brings up suppressed memories from the past. ab is a useful companion through change, imparting strength and perseverance. A stone of transformation, it prepares body and soul for the ascension process.[1]"

Coincidentally, A day later I was reading A Brief History of the Druids by Peter Berresford Ellis. He touches on this subject citing Pliny's Natural History (Book XIX). Wikipedia has an alternate translation a passage that states:

"There is a sort of egg in great repute among the Gauls, of which the Greek writers have made no mention. A vast number of serpents are twisted together in summer, and coiled up in an artificial knot by their saliva and slime; and this is called "the serpent's egg". The druids say that it is tossed in the air with hissings and must be caught in a cloak before it touches the earth. The person who thus intercepts it, flies on horseback; for the serpents will pursue him until prevented by intervening water. This egg, though bound in gold will swim against the stream. And the magi are cunning to conceal their frauds, they give out that this egg must be obtained at a certain age of the moon. I have seen that egg as large and as round as a common sized apple, in a chequered cartilaginous cover, and worn by the Druids. It is wonderfully extolled for gaining lawsuits, and access to kings. It is a badge which is worn with such ostentation, that I knew a Roman knight, a Vocontian, who was slain by the stupid emperor Claudius, merely because he wore it in his breast when a lawsuit was pending.[2]"

Clearly my Labradorite Egg cannot be equated to those serpent talismans of the Ancient Druids. It has, however, warned and guarded me of judgment from the law. I strongly encourage other Druids out there to find an egg shaped stone at your local Geological store made of whatever stone is your favorite. I have yet to consecrate it in Ritual though I plan to when I remember to do so.
